(Inside Out News)<\/a><\/em><\/strong> Ghana has rejected a GH\u00a220 million donation from MTN Ghana<\/a> intended to support Ghanaians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ghanaian government has reportedly declined MTN Ghana\u2019s financial contribution, saying it has already made adequate financial arrangements to support citizens affected by the attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The donation, valued at approximately $1.8 million, was intended to assist Ghanaians impacted by the recent attacks and related unrest in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ghana government explains decision<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reportedly said the government had made provisions for the evacuation and reintegration of affected Ghanaian citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision means MTN Ghana\u2019s proposed contribution will not be used as part of the government\u2019s assistance programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government\u2019s position comes amid heightened concern over the safety of foreign nationals in South Africa, following reports of xenophobic attacks targeting African migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happened to Ghanaians in South Africa?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ghanaians living in South Africa have been among foreign nationals affected by tensions and attacks linked to xenophobia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation has raised concerns in Ghana, with authorities working to assist citizens who may wish to leave affected areas and return home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government has emphasised its responsibility to provide support through its own established mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MTN\u2019s proposed donation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

MTN Ghana had offered GH\u00a220 million to support Ghanaians affected by the attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed assistance was intended to provide financial support to victims and help address some of the challenges faced by affected citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the government was already adequately prepared financially to deal with the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why did Ghana reject the donation?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to the Ministry, the decision was based on the government having already made adequate financial provisions for the evacuation and reintegration of affected citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
