Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has publicly apologised following the circulation of private recordings that attracted widespread attention and debate.
In a statement issued by the Office of the King, he expressed regret over comments made during what was described as a private family discussion. The Royal Household maintained that the recordings were released without the King’s consent and should not be viewed as a reflection of his official position or the current state of the Royal Household.
The King acknowledged that some of his remarks did not meet the standard of conduct expected of him as monarch and offered his sincere apologies to those affected, including members of the Royal Family, amakhosi, church leaders, and the Zulu Nation.
According to the statement, King Misuzulu and Queen Nomzamo Myeni remain committed to fulfilling their royal responsibilities together as efforts to strengthen unity and reconciliation continue. It also confirmed that senior members of the Royal House have been tasked with formally conveying the King’s apology to the leadership of the Nazareth Baptist Church (Shembe).
The Royal Household has urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from sharing the leaked recordings while internal efforts to promote healing and restore unity continue.
