(InsideOutNews) – State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy, a prosecutor with the Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday that the unit was plagued by inconsistent leadership under former IDAC Head Adv Andrea Johnson, alleging that staff nicknamed her “Flip Flopper Knee Jerk” because of her frequent changes in direction.

Ramsamy testified that Johnson regularly reversed decisions, often without explanation, creating uncertainty among prosecutors handling complex corruption cases. According to the witness, instructions were changed repeatedly, making it difficult for legal teams to prepare and pursue matters effectively.
She told the Commission that prosecutors were often left confused about which directives to follow, with decisions being altered at short notice. Ramsamy said the nickname reflected what staff perceived as impulsive leadership and a tendency to react without careful consideration.
Functions of IDAC leadership
The testimony forms part of the Madlanga Commission’s investigation into the functioning of IDAC and allegations surrounding its leadership, governance and operational effectiveness. The Commission has heard evidence from several current and former officials about internal management challenges within the anti-corruption unit.
Ramsamy’s evidence follows previous testimony that raised concerns about instability within IDAC, including allegations that decisions affecting high-profile corruption investigations were inconsistent and, at times, difficult to understand.
Throughout her testimony, Ramsamy maintained that the frequent changes in prosecutorial direction affected morale and complicated the work of prosecutors tasked with handling sensitive corruption matters.
Adv Andrea Johnson has previously denied allegations regarding her leadership of IDAC. The claims made by Ramsamy represent evidence presented under oath before the Commission and have not been adopted as findings by the inquiry.
The Madlanga Commission is expected to continue hearing evidence from additional witnesses as it examines the administration and operations of IDAC. Once all testimony has been concluded, the Commission will compile a report with recommendations based on the evidence presented.
